The Cuban Jhoen Lefont today broke his own record of control of the ball in the modality of touch with the head, by hitting it 1958 times without touching the bottom of the pool according to report of the Cuban News Agency (ACN.)
The new mark was achieved at the Hotel Nacional, in greeting to the Day of Physical Culture and Sports, points out ACN, which explains how Lefont broke his own limit of 1,664 touches on the ball, established in 2018 at the Meliá Cohiba hotel.
“I was a bit tense, not so much because of the physical preparation, which was good, but because of the weather conditions, as I was expecting a lot of wind and cold water in the pool. But favorably it was not like that and I was able to work without major setbacks, ”he commented to this source.
The former player from Matanzas said that the goal was to reach 1700 touches, but today he felt very good both physically and psychologically and he extended the number of hits to the ball much more.
“I had a difficult moment when I was about to touch 1,300, because I felt a little load on my legs and, in addition, the ball moved more than normal for this type of test. But I was able to control it and the record came to a happy end,” he explained to ACN.
Cuban Lefont to the Guinness Book for record in possession of the ball in the water
For this attempt, the athlete did weight training with the national polo team and with the most veterans of this sport. In addition, he did touch-the-ball training sessions of 3 × 800 or two per thousand, with a five-minute break between each session.
For next year I will attempt a world distance record that would consist of going 500 meters in the pool without the ball falling and then I will try to break the one with the most touches in one minute.
