Joel Santos heads the start of works to expand the Electrical System Coordinating Agency

Santo Domingo, DR.- The minister of Energy and Mines (MEM), Joel Santos Echavarría, together with the manager of the Coordinating Body (OC) of the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI), Manuel López San Pablo, led the acts of beginning the construction of the expansion of the infrastructure of the Coordinating Body, in order to improve the control of the operations of the Dominican electrical system.

The work, which consists of a two-story office of around 1,800 square meters, which will be built at the headquarters of the Coordinating Agency, located in the sector Deep Creek of the National District, will have offices of different departments, including technology, administration, finance, rooms for council meetings and technical support structures.

Highlighting the importance of expanding the OC offices, Santos Echavarria said that sufficient space is needed for this organization, which is key in the stability of the electrical system, can perform its functions appropriately, so that the Dominican population has a modern and efficient energy service.

“We have an electrical system that is growing significantly and that requires that the infrastructures be developed in the same way so that they can maintain the stability of the system,” he said. Joel Santos, He stressed that during his administration he will work in a coordinated manner with the institutions of the electrical sector to guarantee the robustness of the service.

Meanwhile, López San Pablo indicated that the project to build these new offices seeks to have modern spaces, that help strengthen the planning and control of electricity supply for the benefit of the population, since OC is an important piece in maintaining the stability and security of the national electrical system.

He pointed out that the energy sector has grown rapidly, so the OC, as planner and coordinator of the operation of the electrical system, must expand its infrastructure and adapt it to new technologies to ensure better service.

“We need to have, with new technologies, new systems to improve the control of the generators, the transmission and the electrical distribution, in order to meet the demand required by the sector and adapt it to the new technologies; therefore, to make the operation of the system more efficient, we must expand this space,” said López San Pablo, detailing that the work will be carried out by ROSCH. Construction Group.

For his part, Andrés Astacio, Superintendent of Electricity, stated that expanding the physical space of the Coordinating Body is a reflection of the fact that the Dominican Government has managed to increase the amount of electricity supply, thus betting that society will continue to grow from an economic point of view, because the basis and foundation of the development of any country is energy.

At the end of the ribbon cutting, Santos Echavarría, together with officials from the sector, took a tour of the real-time operations room of the Coordinating Body.

Also present at the event were Edward Veras, executive director of the National Energy Commission, and Pool Rodríguez, general manager of ROSCH Construction Group.
