Joe Biden promised to continue the fight against firearms in the United States for another shooting

President Joe Biden promised on Monday to continue the fight against the “epidemic” of gun violence in the United States after a shooting at a Fourth of July parade in a town near Chicago which left at least six dead.

Biden said that both he and his wife Jill were “shocked by the senseless gun violence that once again brought pain to a community American this Independence Day.

“I will not stop fighting the epidemic of gun violence,” he promised, recalling that in late June he enacted the first major gun control legislation in decades, while acknowledging that “much remains to be done”.

ON THE SHOOTING NEAR CHICAGO

A man opened fire and left at least six dead and 24 wounded this Monday during a parade for the Independence Day of the United States in Highland Park, a town north of Chicago, authorities reported.

“At this time, two dozen people have been transported to Highland Park Hospital. Six have been confirmed dead,” Commander Chris O’Neil of Highland Park Police told reporters.

The suspect, described by police as a white male between the ages of 18 and 20, escaped and is considered “armed and dangerous.”

“TWe still urge all people to shelter where they are right now“, he added.

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering condemned the violence.
