The barbarians is the film that places the Peruvian actor and comedian Job Mansilla in the showcase of the Lima 2025 Film Festival. And it will be its leading debut, in addition to international level.
The film, directed by the Spanish Javier Barbero and the Peruvian Martín Guerra, will have its premiere in our country as part of the Latin American competition of the 29th edition of the PUCP Festival.
In addition to Mansilla, the film has a promising international cast: the Spanish actor àlex Monner, winner of two silver biznagas of the Malaga Festival; Barcelona Greta Fernández, highlighted for her role in the daughter of a thief, with whom she obtained the Silver shell in San Sebastián; and Eliza Rycembel, Polish actress known for her participation in the nominee Oscar Corpus Christi.
Three young people roam for a city stripped of opportunities, including unstable jobs, spontaneous friendships and an abandonment environment. The film proposes a subtle reflection on an increasingly widespread paradox between contemporary youth: coexistence between precariousness and a vital carefreeness that dislodges previous generations.
The barbarians do not portray an idealized or victimized youth, but a shared experience: that of those who, given the lack of perspectives, decide to live without fear and celebrate the present. “It is an urban portrait about fortuitous friendship, the vitality that survives the failures and ways in which young people learn to inhabit a world that no longer promises anything to them,” say its directors.
The film will have three projections during the festival: on Friday, August 8, at 4:30 pm, in the Red Sala of the CCPUCP; on Tuesday, August 12, at 7:20 pm, in Cineplanet Alcázar; And on Thursday, August 14, at 9:40 pm, at the Teatro Nos PUCP.
Recall that its world premiere was in 2024, at the Seville Festival. And Job Mansilla comes from successfully setting up the unipersonal to laugh. The Lima Film Festival goes from August 7 to 16.
