João Fonseca stated, on Monday (17), that much changed after the conquest, last Sunday (16), of the ATP 250 of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the first title of the Brazilian in the professional tennis circuit.
“A lot has changed. It was a very special title. The first title is always unforgettable. I won him in Argentina. Obviously I would like it to go here in Rio, but it was special the same way, ”said the 18-year-old tennis player at a news conference before his debut on the Open River, which will be next Tuesday (18) against the Frenchman Alexandre Müller.
According to João Fonseca, the moment of celebration has passed, and now it is necessary to focus on the dispute of the one that is considered the largest tennis tournament in South America: “What happened is past, and now is to focus on the present, in the future, that can happen on the Open River ”.
However, after becoming the youngest Brazilian to earn a trophy in the circuit of the Association of Professional Tennisas (ATP), the carioca took on greater protagonism among the tennis players of Brazil: “I am very happy and proud of me. And I want to see more children looking at me as an example and inspiration. This gives me the strength to follow wanting to be number one in the world. ”
In the interview, João Fonseca admitted that all the repercussion around his name brings a certain weight, but also serves as fuel to seek new achievements: “It is a dream to play tennis. It is an honor to represent Brazil. And I’m doing what I like, what I love. And seeing people are inspired by me, gives me fuel to keep fighting, continuing to work harder and harder, get titles. I think things will happen naturally, along with hard work. I can’t say that, in the face of all that is happening, I will be a tennis star, because that’s not how it works. Time will say. But I guarantee that I work hard to get there. ”
