JNJ rejects reconsideration of Pablo Sánchez and confirms his suspension for 120 days

JNJ rejects reconsideration of Pablo Sánchez and confirms his suspension for 120 days

The plenary session of the National Board of Justice (JNJ) rejected the reconsideration of the titular supreme prosecutor Pablo Sánchez against the resolution that imposed a suspension for 120 days and, consequently, confirmed said sanction. There were 4 votes to declare the appeal unfounded and only two to archive the disciplinary process against the magistrate.

Councilors Guillermo Thornberry (speaker), Marco Tulio Falconí, María Zavala and Antonio de la Haza voted against Sánchez Velarde’s appeal. Meanwhile, councilors Aldo Vásquez and Imelda Tumialán were in favor of the reconsideration being upheld and the sanction revoked.

In this case, the JNJ sanctions Pablo Sánchez with suspension for having violated the Law on the Prosecutorial Career for the collection of 3 salaries from the State: supreme prosecutor, university professor and member of the board of directors of the Academy of Judiciary. Specialists have questioned the interpretation that has been given to the prohibition of double perception in the public sector.

Now that the suspension resolution has become final – that is, there is no other appeal to challenge it – the JNJ will proceed to notify the Attorney General’s Office so that it can be executed and Sánchez removed from office for 4 months.
