The National Board of Justice (JNJ) today scheduled the appearance of the suspended supreme prosecutor Delia Espinoza Valenzuela on the disciplinary procedure that proposes his dismissal.
During his intervention, Espinoza denounced that the report presented by Judge María Teresa Cabrera was “tendentious” and “forced”, and he also indicated that “he has not stated the entire truth of the statements.”
“You have committed a crime of corruption, including improper use of office. Peru is watching and history is going to judge us. There is an earthly justice, but above all a divine justice and that is what will prevail,” Espinoza stated before the audience.
In the middle of the participation of both magistrates, there was an altercation and exchange of words in a high-pitched manner. Judge Cabrera interrupted Epinoza to demand respect. “You are disrespectful, you are saying that we are committing a crime; you have to stick to making your oral report as a lawyer,” Cabrera rebuked him.
Espinoza replied: “I am not going to argue with you because you are a person who already knows each other.” You have tainted (the process) with all the lies that are inside.” In response to the discussion, both lawyers were urged to use non-offensive words. Delia Espinoza responded that she was not offending, but rather pointing out that “the truth has been violated.”
In the midst of the questions that were asked of Espinoza, she justified why she did not convene the Board of Supreme Prosecutors when the former National Prosecutor Patricia Benavides was reinstated.
“I couldn’t put (security) at risk. My staff told me that we didn’t know who and how they had entered. What if they had weapons? The way Mrs. Benavides enters scares anyone,” he explained.
It must be remembered that this was one of the four reasons why she was suspended from office.
Delia Espinoza also indicated on this issue that “they did not comply with their own organic law, they did not notify well.” Now, the Plenary of the JNJ must evaluate today’s defenses to issue a final resolution on the future of the suspended supreme prosecutor.
