JNJ acquits Supreme Prosecutor Zoraida Ávalos of the Disciplinary Process

The National Board of Justice (JNJ) decided to acquit the Supreme Prosecutor Zoraida Ávalos of the disciplinary process that allegedly faced having interfered in the functions of the Police and a Callao Prosecutor’s Office when he served as prosecutor of the Nation.

“The Plenary of the National Board of Justice resolved the disciplinary procedure No. 096-2023-JNJ followed by the Supreme Prosecutor Zoraida Ávalos for alleged interference in the functions of the National Police of Peru and the functions of the second office of the Prosecutor’s Office Specialized corporate supraprovincial against organized crime of Callao, charges charged in his action as prosecutor of the nation, ”reads the JNJ statement.

After assessing the test and discharge evidence, the collegiate decided to acquit the investigated Ávalos Rivera, having not accredited that he has incurred the behaviors imputed in the position of opening of the disciplinary procedure, but also acted in accordance with his powers and attributions and to facilitate the course of the various required investigations.

The disciplinary procedure No. 096-2023-JNJ began with the notification of its opening, which occurred on January 23, 2024, after exceptionally expanding the resolution period on September 23, 2023, through resolution n. ° 1260-2024-JNJ.

In view of what was indicated, the current plenary of the National Board of Justice complied with resolving the process before the expiration of the investigation, in addition to guaranteeing independence, objectivity and impartiality in its resolutions.

Dismissed and admitted again

As recalled, the former Public Prosecutor’s Office was dismissed and disabled for five years to occupy public office by Congress in June 2023.

A majority of legislators decided to impose that severe punishment for suspending investigations for corruption against former president Pedro Castillo until he concludes his mandate.

However, Ávalos managed to admit an amparo action for which the third Constitutional Chamber of Lima ordered its immediate replacement as the Supreme Prosecutor of the Public Ministry.
