The National Elections Jury (JNE) urged political organizations and citizens to maintain an attitude of calm and respect for the results of the Regional and Municipal Elections that were held last Sunday, October 2.

The electoral body expressed its concern about the violent events that took place in various areas of the country while the election day was taking place. Therefore, he asked the relevant authorities to act according to their powers.

The JNE reported that there were 40 electoral conflicts throughout the country. Most occurred in Loreto (7), La Libertad (5), Cajamarca (3) and Áncash (3).

Amazonas, Huánuco, Lima, Huancavelica, Ica, Ayacucho and Puno presented two cases each, while San Martín, Lambayeque, Ucayali, Callao, Junín, Cusco, Apurímac and Arequipa registered one case.

The entity recalled that during the electoral process they promoted the campaign “Choose a culture of peace” with the purpose of raising awareness among citizens about the importance of building a democracy based on respect and tolerance.
