The National Drug Board (JND) met with those responsible for celebrations to collect data and finalize a document to promote responsible celebrations. The secretary general of the agency, Daniel Radío, explained that the aim is to unify the current isolated practices in a regulation and then present it to the Congress of Mayors in order to implement it throughout the country.
After the meeting, held on August 16, Radio informed the media that it took place within the framework of the JND’s systematic national prevention plan with representation from the educational, labor and community spheres.
He pointed out that promoting careful events is an action that has been worked on for several years, on which there are some guides, but they are not systematized. Now, with the participation of all the actors involved, efforts are being made to define protocols and arrive at the development of a single standard.
In this sense, he said that the document will contain aspects such as the design of maps of event venues, the creation of zones free of sale and consumption, rest, first aid and identification of intoxications and forms of risky consumption (“bilge tents ”) and hydration stations.
He added that there are no established deadlines, that it is a process that has just begun, through meetings with event producers, and that other spaces for exchange are planned with public and private institutions linked to the regulation of parties, as well as health care, and entrepreneurs in the field. The final product will be presented to the Congress of Mayors to apply it throughout the national territory.
The hierarch highlighted that, before the Nostalgia Night celebrations, on August 24, an explanatory campaign will be carried out through the JND’s social networks, and organizers will be suggested to develop communication strategies with messages to promote care, risk management and harm reduction associated with consumption.
