The mayor of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Jhonny Fernández, proposed this Friday to lift the restrictions imposed that seek to prevent the spread of Covid-19. According to the mayor, they should work 24 hours a day to reactivate the economy and he argued; “Who is going to feed the people?”

“I am going to propose that you work 24 hours a day and there are no restrictions. A mayor cannot say ‘quarantine and they lock themselves up’, then who is going to feed the people? The proposal is to reactivate the economy,” said the mayor.

The proposal was made in front of a concentration of neighborhood and business organizations that were stationed in the Plaza 24 de Septiembre, in what was called the first “Citizen Assembly.”

Already on Monday the Municipal Emergency Operations Committee (Coem) of Santa Cruz had determined to extend the circulation schedule from 5:00 to 00:00.

The department of Santa Cruz is one of the three regions that registers the highest numbers of infections by Covid-19, however, it presents a de-escalation of cases. This Friday reported 1,200 positive cases.
