The mayor of Santa Cruz, Jhonny Fernández, asked the courts on at least two occasions for a hearing to expand his statements against Antonio Parada Vaca, Javier Cedeño, and others for the “ghost items” case. This was reported by the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz, after the State Attorney General, Juan Lanchipa, announced that the mayor will be summoned as a witness.
Fernández presented in the first instance a letter, dated December 23, requesting the declaratory extension hearing for Wednesday (yesterday).

“I consider it appropriate to provide an expanded statement of complaint, as one more way of providing information to the process under investigation,” says the letter to the prosecutors commission.
However, in another document, he asked for it to be rescheduled for tomorrow, December 31, for having a “busy schedule of municipal activities.”

“When I find my schedule overloaded with work activities of the Santa Cruz municipality planned in advance and with the will to help with the investigation (…), I request to set a new date and time to give my expanded statement, appealing it is considered the same for Friday, December 31 January at 12:30 ”, says the second letter, which confirms“ their total willingness to contribute to the investigation of the ghost items scandal, ”according to a statement from the Santa Cruz municipality.
Yesterday, Lanchipa announced that the Santa Cruz mayor would be summoned to give his statement in the case of “ghost items” as a witness. The highest representative of the Public Ministry did not give details about the date, but days ago the Mayor’s Office announced that the mayor contracted Covid-19.
