“It is my commitment to use our energy to promote inclusion through an objective policy of social and economic development that generates work and income for our people,” he said.

Rodrigues cited the writer Carolina Maria de Jesus to remember the need to face hunger, a theme present in the author’s work, which became one of the most relevant in the country when narrating her experience as a black woman living in the slums in the 1950s.

“When a child goes hungry, it’s everybody’s problem”, said one of the most important Brazilian writers, Carolina Maria de Jesus. It is not enough for food to be on people’s tables. It is necessary to promote a consistent policy of food and nutritional security in Bahia”, said the new governor, who also promised to “firmly combat all forms of prejudice and discrimination”.

Jerônimo Rodrigues received the post from former governor Rui Costa (PT). The transmission ceremony, held after the inauguration, was marked by the presentation of the Brazilian National Anthem interpreted by the indigenous Nívea Akuã Pataxó, accompanied by the camerata of the Neojibá Orchestra (State Nucleus of Children’s and Youth Orchestras of Bahia), a project maintained by the government of State of Bahia.
