The images, released by TV Perushowed the president attentive to the screens that transmitted the detainee’s journey until his arrival in Callao.
Jerí was accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcioand other senior officials in the Security sector.
A handful of photos on Flickr show the president attentive to details.
The scene generated immediate comparisons with the photographs released by the White House when the extraction of Maduro was carried out, who was portrayed monitoring the ‘Absolute Resolution’ operation.
The photographs showed the American president with his main advisors following the development of the mission.
The extradition operation
Moreno Hernández’s transfer began in Luque, Paraguay, where he was handed over to the Peruvian authorities in the First Brigade of the Paraguayan Air Force. At 9:15 in the morning, an aircraft from the National Police of Peru He left for the country, according to the head of the Interpol department, Julio Maldonado.
The flight included a technical stopover in Arequipa before heading to the Police Aviation Directorate in Callao. Previously, the detainee underwent a medical evaluation that determined that he was fit for the trip. The authorities specified that he was not facing pending judicial proceedings in Paraguay, which allowed his extradition to be accelerated.
The procedure was authorized on November 17 by a Paraguayan guarantee judge, following the request of the Third Independence Preparatory Investigation Court, of the Superior Court of Lima Norte.
Public presentation and security measures
Upon landing in Callao, ‘El Monstruo’ was presented to the press wearing a red prisoner’s suit, while President Jerí continued following the scene live from San Isidro. In parallel, the Minister of the Interior and the head of Justice offered a conference to detail the process and the measures adopted.
The National Police of Peru identifies Moreno Hernández, 34, as the alleged leader of the criminal organization The Northern Cone Graftsto which crimes of extortion and hitmen committed in Lima during recent months are attributed. The detainee appeared on the Ministry of the Interior’s most wanted list, with a reward of one million soles for information that would allow his capture.
A style of power in construction
Public monitoring of the operation was not an isolated event. José Jerí, who faces the ‘Chifagate’ scandal, has chosen since coming to power an image similar to that of Nayib Bukele in El Salvador or Daniel Noboa in Ecuador, where security has become a pillar of government discourse.
Unlike the previous administration, Jerí has chosen to constantly appear in police operations, penitentiaries and monitoring rooms, reinforcing a narrative of state control and presence in the face of the advance of organized crime.
