The congressman Guillermo Bermejo arrived at Arequipa on the night of October 18 to promote his presidential candidacy. A group of sikuris accompanied him and presented his campaign proposals. Furthermore, he criticized the government of José Jerístating that so far it does not generate confidence in the population.
“Jerí made a mistake, he should not have assumed (the presidency). He should have been someone who generated the trust and tranquility that we all want until we reach the elections,” Bermejo said.
The left-wing parliamentarian added that in his eventual government, he will promote the investigation of the deaths under the governments of Dina Boluarte and José Jerí. “We were the first to denounce the murder of the last repression and we will ask for an investigative commission. In addition, we want a truth commission for all the massacres that have occurred when we are in government.”

“Pedro Castillo did not commit the crime of rebellion”
Bermejo asserted that, according to the law, it is impossible for Pedro Castillo Terrones reoccupy the presidential chair, this if he is released. The former president has been in preventive detention since December 2022 after his failed attempt to coup d’état.
“He did not commit the crime of rebellion and should not be in prison, justice is absolutely politicized. It is not legally possible since Castillo returns to the presidency,” said the congressman who aspires to be president.
Bermejo insists with constituent assembly
Guillermo Bermejo will run for the Venceremos party, which uses the coca leaf as a symbol. “We chose the coca leaf as a symbol, because it is the nation’s heritage. It represents a huge sector of our homeland and our ancient culture and history,” he said.
Among its proposals is the formation of a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution. He also proposes the second agrarian reform, the industrialization of minerals. Also a reform in the structure of the National Police of Peru, the Armed Forces and the justice system. “We want these changes to correctly combat crime,” Bermejo emphasized.
Likewise, he maintained that there is an abandonment of prior consultation, the rights of indigenous and native peoples. He added that it will strengthen the Quechua language and its teaching in schools.
