In statements to journalists, the president acknowledged that the slap that the parliamentarian gave to Juan de la Vía Vázquez, a worker at the Tax Administration Service (SAT) on Monday, January 5, “has been a regrettable moment.”
“I think he has not been able to adequately control the situation. This type of behavior, as authorities, should not occur. We have to aspire to have appropriate and correct behavior,” he said.
However, Jerí – who was Alcarraz’s benchmate at the beginning of this five-year legislative period – also said that “we must understand the moments in which the congresswoman was surely in,” and added that in any case it will be Parliament that will adopt “the corresponding actions.”
Precisely the day before, the Parliamentary Ethics Commission agreed to open an ex officio investigation into the parliamentarian for the attack on the SAT inspector, which was recorded distorting the statements of the congresswoman who denied the attack and intended to disqualify the worker.
As recalled, through a statement the SAT reported that the events took place on the Atocongo bridge, in the district of San Juan de Miraflores, when the parliamentarian’s vehicle was seized because she had an arrest warrant for coercive collections.
It was under these circumstances that the legislator, who is currently not a member of any bench, tried to dissuade the SAT staff from taking the vehicle to the depot, but when she failed, she slapped one of the inspectors and snatched his cell phone, which is why she has been reported to the National Police.
This is not the first time that Alcarraz has been reported for this type of situation. Months ago he also threatened a journalist with “slamming her against the wall” because she questioned her about hiring her son’s partner in her congressional office.
