Jennifer Lawrence surprised Leonardo DiCaprio during their conversation for Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors by revealing an unusual incident that happened on the set of The Hunger Games.
The 33-year-old actress said she had hallucinations after accidentally taking Ambien before filming a scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman.
“You and I are obsessive about sleep when we work, like counting the hours. I took an Ambien in the morning, thinking it was something else. It was a dance scene with Philip Seymour Hoffman in the second Hunger Games movie. I was hallucinating. Elizabeth Banks was very annoyed with me,” she recounted.
Lawrence described the moment with humor, and Leonardo DiCaprio called such episodes “key mistakes” in any actor’s career.
In the conversation, the actress also recalled another incident on the set of Red Sparrowwhen she mistook an Adderall for a sleeping pill and couldn’t rest all night.
“I was taking hot showers in a panic. I’m not someone who functions without sleep. And then I had to say the phrase ‘Senate Armed Services Committee’ with a Russian accent. That was terrible,” she said, laughing.
Jennifer Lawrence will return to the “Hunger Games” franchise
Jennifer Lawrence played Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games franchise, which included four films between 2012 and 2015.
The saga has continued to expand with cinematic prequels, such as The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in 2023, and the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Harvestscheduled for 2026, in which Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss.
Ace Variety reported in early December, the actress and her co-star Josh Hutcherson will return as Katniss and Peeta in Dawn of the Harvest.
Details about their appearances are being kept secret. However, readers of the books know that their characters appear alongside Haymitch in the epilogue, suggesting some time jump or flash-forward in the story.
The actress has expressed in several interviews her willingness to reprise her role as Katniss.
In June 2023, while promoting her film No Hard FeelingsJennifer Lawrence told Variety that she was “totally” open to returning to the role if the right opportunity arose. “If Katniss could come back into my life, 100%,” she said at the time.
Josh Hutcherson has also expressed interest in returning to the successful franchise.
“It wouldn’t take much to convince me. I’d be there in a heartbeat. It would be a dream come true. Do dreams come true? Sometimes. Sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they do,” he said.
It’s worth noting that The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Harvest is set 24 years before the events of the first film and focuses on the 50th Hunger Games, a particularly significant edition within the saga’s canon.
The plot follows Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, who is forced to compete in this commemorative edition of the event organized by the Capitol. The film adapts the novel of the same name, published in 2025 by Suzanne Collins.
