Jenni Hermoso fulfills another dream: "I'm proud"

UANL Tigers qualified this Sunday for the final of the Apertura tournament of the Mexican women’s soccer league by beating Cruz Azul 2-1 with a goal from the Spanish world champion Jenni Hermoso.

The European, who converted from a penalty, will seek in her second final with Tigres to obtain her first league title in Mexico, since the Apertura 2024 match was lost to Monterrey.

“We are happy because we are in this final and experiencing this makes me feel very proud. We thank the people who came to support us. It has been a very tough tournament and now we are going for this title,” Hermoso stated at the end of the match.

The other goal for the local team was scored by Diana Ordóñez, while the Jamaican scored a penalty for Cruz Azul. Deneisha Blackwood.

The cats advanced to the championship match with a total score of 3-2, after they tied 1-1 in the first leg of the semifinal last Thursday.

The first period of this match was of an intense rhythm with a constant coming and going on both goals.

In the second half, Madrid’s Pedro Martínez’s team maintained dominance and caused the visitor to fall into despair, which caused Uruguayan Solange Lemos to receive her second yellow card, which cost her expulsion in the 55th minute for a strong tackle.

The local team took advantage of the rival’s bad moment and in the 64th minute sealed the match with 0-2 in a cross from the left that Ordoñez finished with a header inside the six-yard box.

Despite having one less player, the visitor tried to go forward and was rewarded in the 90th, in a handball inside the area by a defender that was awarded a penalty that Deneisha Blackwood scored to leave the game 2-1.

In the final, Tigres will face whoever wins later in the other semifinal between América, led by Spaniard Bruna Vilamala, and Guadalajara, coached by Antonio Contreras from Badajoz.
