In Thursday night hours, the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) from Lima North 1 announced through a resolution the annulment of the municipal elections held in Puente Piedra last October 2. These elections were won by former congressman Rennán Espinoza (Somos Perú) with 30% of the votes.
Said measure is given after admitting as founded the request for annulment presented by the legal representative of Renovación Popular, Sixto Pérez Coa. As explained in the document, the reason to give free rein to the annulment responds to the fact that “the electoral regulations have been vulnerable, in addition to fundamental rights of a constitutional nature”.
It is worth mentioning that the candidate of this party, Milton Jiménez, was second in the district preferences when he won 20% of the votes.
With this, Puente Piedra becomes the second district of the capital, after Lince, to have a legal dispute involved in relation to the last elections for the local mayor and whose future will have to be settled first in the offices of the National Elections Jury (JNE).
However, it is necessary to point out that the decision of the electoral organization can still be appealed. and, consequently, reverse the effects of the resolution.

The meeting between Rafael López Aliaga and Rennán Espinoza
Hours before knowing the decision of the JEE due to the imputation made by People’s Renewal, the elected mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, leader of this party, met with several of the new district mayors of the city, among them, with Rennán Espinoza.
In the aforementioned appointment, López Aliaga took the opportunity to strengthen ties and agree with the mayors on future policies to be followed in Lima.
However, the new panorama presented both in Puente Piedra and in Lince, where until now, by decision of the JNE, the elected mayor is not officially known, complicates the configuration of the coordination to be followed. from January 2023, when the new elected authorities officially take office in October 2022.
