Juan Carlos Áñez, brother of former President Jeanine Áñezappeared this Wednesday at the offices of the Specialized Department to Fight Corruption (DELCC), located in Plan Tres Mil, after he was accused by the Public Ministry of Santa Cruz for the alleged crime of legitimizing illicit earnings.
Leaving the police offices, Juan Carlos Áñez did not provide any words; Her lawyer announced that her defendant refrained from testifying before the prosecutors commission.
“Anyone can be someone’s brother, relative; crimes are very personal. So, we are going to be in the entire investigation, it is the first hearing that we attended, there is still no evidence, ”he assured the media.
The jurist affirmed that the required memorials were presented and that they will come again, in case they are summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office.
In a first call, which was made by the prosecutor assigned to the case, Alberto Zeballos, the brother of the former president justified, by means of a memorial, that he could not attend, as he suffered from symptoms of Covid-19. For this reason, the date was rescheduled, with a warning that if he did not attend, his arrest would be ordered.
The investigation was activated ex officio by the Public Ministry, following a report from the Financial Investigations Unit (UIF), which identified alleged suspicious economic movements.
The Prosecutor’s Office requested the Plurinational Service of Commerce Registration (Seprec), National Customs and National Taxes, information to verify if the investigated has real estate, commercial companies, vehicles or other assets.
