JCE and parties agree to respect the electoral law

Santo Domingo. – The Plenary of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and representatives of matchesmovements and political groups recognized before the electoral body signed this Thursday a commitment to electoral integrity in order to guarantee a fair and transparent process in the 2024 elections.

The president of the JCERomán Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, accompanied by the titular members, Rafael Armando Vallejos, Dolores Fernández, Patricia Lorenzo Paniagua and Samir Chami Isa, as well as the secretary general Sonne Beltré, pointed out that the JCE has the inalienable commitment to comply with and enforce the rules electoral.

“It is a commitment of the highest level to its affiliates and to citizens. To the extent that the organizations behave, so do their affiliates,” said Jáquez.

He assured that compliance with the agreement will lead the country to a “fair, transparent and equitable” electoral process, after pointing out that the signing of this pact “is a civic commitment.”

The parties that signed the commitment were the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), the People’s Force (FP), the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), and the Christian Social Reformist Party (PRSC).

In addition, Alianza País (Alpaís), Dominicans for Change, the National Unity Party (PUN), the Social Democratic Institutional Block, the Renovating Civic Party, the Social Democratic Revolutionary Party and the Alternative Democratic Party (MODA), among others.

The representatives of said groups exhausted a turn to validate the commitment of the JCE, greet the pact and commit to the points contemplated in the document.

Last Wednesday, the representatives of the political organizations promised to take the document to the authorities of their parties and sign the agreement this Thursday, November 3.

The commitment to electoral integrity indicates that in this period prior to the pre-campaign, only exclusively institutional activities within political organizations are allowed and, according to article 8 of resolution 28/2021 of October 13, 2021, activities such as rallies, caravans and concentrations of people in public places are prohibited.

In addition, the placement of billboards, posters or cross streets in which the pre-candidacy proposal or the position to which one intends to aspire can be verified, and third, placement of messages or paid promotions of a political nature in radio, television, media instant messaging, among others.
