The strike of carriers announced for June 27 will be extended indefinitely until the government meets the demands of the various unions and organizations in the sector, he told Peru21.TV Javier Marchese, president of the National Union of Heavy Load Carriers (UNT).
“We are going to go on an indefinite strike and, according to what we have agreed with our bases, as long as the supreme decree is not signed or Congress does not give us the law, it will not be possible to lift the strike since our situation is very critical because we are in a bankrupt position”, he pointed out.

The force measure would produce shortages of food and basic necessities in Lima and other cities.
“We are asking food carriers and farmers to speed up their movements because on Monday no food is going to enter Lima,” Marchese warned.
“To the population of Lima, we ask you not to be afraid and to stock up. (…) To the housewives, forgive us, but the solution also passes through us, ”she added.
Bruno Aberasturi, head of the National Association of Land Freight Transport (Anatec), confirmed that his union will join the UNT in this call. For its part, the Interprovincial Bus Transport Association will make a decision after the meeting that the transport unions will hold today with the MTC.

STOP IS NOT RESCHEDULED
The national leaders of the transport unions denied that the strike will be rescheduled for July 18, as the regional leader of the Association of Transporters of Peru (Asotrape), Javier Corrales, had stated yesterday in Arequipa.
The fact was greeted by the head of the MTC, Juan Barranzuela, during the session of the Decentralized Council of Ministers. For Martín Ojeda, spokesman for the National Land Transport Council, “this shows a total ignorance of the people who have been advising him.”
From Junín, Walter Solano, regional representative of the UNT, confirmed that the June 27 strike will not be suspended.
KEEP IN MIND
- Farmers will also hold a strike on June 27 and 28 due to the rise in fertilizer prices.
- The nationwide protests in April were led by carriers and farmers and left eight dead and dozens detained.
