The Minister of National Defense, Javier García, tried to stop the start of the political trial against the mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, an act promoted by a group of mayors of the multicolored coalition in the Departmental Board (JDM) due to alleged “lack of transparency” of the capital administration.
“A fellow member of the board consulted me on Friday when the decision was practically made. I told him that it seemed to me that it was necessary to stop a little to analyze the decision legally and politically in greater depth, ”said García.
And he added that he understands that “There was no organic consultation, to the authorities of the National Party, and I think that to the coalition either”.
For the Secretary of State, these types of measures are “very extreme” and that is why he tried to stop it in time.
The PN was not consulted
For her part, the president of the Montevideo Department of the National Party, Laura Raffo, confirmed that the leadership of the political organization was not consulted but, unlike Javier García, she does support the decision.
For the former candidate for the IMM (who lost precisely against Cosse in the last elections), the mayors of the nationalist opposition have a “accumulated wear” so it is “understandable” that they react like this “the mayor had not appeared in the room”.
The action of requesting impeachment was taken in a “autonomous” from the multicolor bench was made “without an organic party consultation”.
A “media circus”
The senator for the Cabildo Abierto party, Guillermo Domenech, does not strongly agree with the political trial against Cosse either.
For the ultra-conservative legislator, it is about “a media circus”, according to statements collected in the program the things in their place of Radio Sarandi. And he added: “I used to come here and see the sidewalks, the traffic, public locomotion, the issue of garbage that we cannot resolve. […]. We could make a long list of the problems we have at the community level, but we are going to praise ourselves in a media circus because the mayor is arrogant and does not want to answer the requests for reports, and the councilors initiate a constitutional procedure, which we recognize as legally correct, but that we know that it does not have an effective destiny”.
