The current parliamentary director general, Javier Ángeles, is the new interim senior officer of Congress. This was announced by the president of Parliament, José Williams, after José Cevasco resigned from his position, according to him “for political reasons”, but perhaps motivated because the Prosecutor’s Office intervened today in the offices of the administrative management for the investigations of the scandal Bufet and other allegedly overvalued purchases.
Williams said that he hopes that next Monday the board of directors of Congress can officially name Javier Ángeles, who had been holding the position of parliamentary director general and has been, in the past, a senior officer.

Officials of the Public Ministry, in charge of the Prosecutor Viviana Robles, the administrative offices of the Congress of the Republic intervened this morning in the ‘Buffet’ case. Robles pointed out that the Prosecutor’s Office collected information and that the investigation is confidential. In the afternoon, Cevasco gave a press conference in which he resigned.
As recalled, the Cuarto Poder Sunday program revealed that, in December of last year, an addendum was signed that modified the contract for the acquisition of food during plenary sessions, and allowed legislators to receive a buffet instead of lunch, which caused the increase from S/ 15.9 to S/ 80.00 for that service.
However, last Monday, the former senior officer, José Cevasco, annulled that addendum and announced that the congressmen were no longer going to receive the lunch subsidized by Parliament. Subsequently, the press uncovered new purchases that were allegedly overvalued and made during Cevasco’s management.
The president of Parliament pointed out that the directors of logistics, human resources and supply also resigned from their posts.
