Javier Álvarez demands that the international community "pressure" Ortega to release his relatives

Oppositionist Javier Álvarez Zamora released a letter to publicize the situation experienced by his wife Jeannine Horvilleur Cuadra, 63, his daughter Ana Álvarez Horvilleur, 43, and his son-in-law Félix Roiz, who have been held captive since September 13 in the “El Nuevo Chipote” torture prison.

“They have not committed any crime, nor have they had any political participation, however, they have been unfairly imprisoned for the simple fact of being my relatives. I am only opposed to the government, but I have not committed any crime either, I only want democracy and freedom in Nicaragua, which does not constitute any type of fault or crime, ”says the opponent in the letter signed from his exile in Costa Rica.

Álvarez considers that “this new modality, arresting the relatives of an opponent, by not finding him, is a very serious aggression and violation of the most basic human rights, by transferring an alleged blame to his direct relatives.”

Faced with this situation, the politically persecuted person requests humanitarian aid for his family «Jeaninne Horvilleur is a cancer survivor, who is currently in remission, but must undergo regular medical check-ups, as well as take very specific prevention and control medications. Félix Roiz has had multiple operations for esophageal problems, for which he needs to permanently take special medications for his condition, as well as a controlled and very specific diet. Ana Carolina Álvarez has chronic stomach problems and recurrent infections that indicate the deficiency of her immune system », expresses the letter.

His wife and daughter, both of Nicaraguan and French nationality, were detained by the Ortega Police when they were looking for opposition figure Javier Álvarez Zamora, who managed to leave Nicaragua to request international protection. The opponent denounced that police agents entered his home arbitrarily and without a court order in search of him, not finding him, the agents proceeded to take his wife and daughter.

Álvarez reiterates that his family “is made up of hard-working, honest and caring people. In addition to being unjustly detained and for the simple fact of being relatives of a politically persecuted person, they are people with chronic medical ailments and whose health and physical integrity can be compromised due to poor care.

He asks the international community for support to “exercise pressure and for the Government of Nicaragua to release them. They have practically kidnapped my entire family, which is unprecedented, and have been accused of fabricated crimes that they did not commit. They have forced me into exile, like thousands of Nicaraguans, just for thinking differently, ”says the letter.

The regime has launched a new hunt against opponents during the last two weeks, arresting leaders of political organizations, activists and opponents, but also relatives of those who are in exile due to threats and harassment against them.
