A monk monkey (Saimiri boliviensis peruviensis) was recovered by SERFOR in the district of Acolla, Jauja, after being handed over by the Police. The animal had been found disoriented in agricultural land, hungry, thirsty and clear signs of human manipulation.

The ATFFS Sierra Central team confirmed obvious stress, repetitive movements, fear of closed spaces and even painted nails, indicating prolonged contact with people. The primate, about two to three years old, received immediate veterinary attention and will be transferred to an authorized center for recovery.

Serfor indicated that this species does not live in the Andean area, so it would have been illegally extracted from its natural environment. They recalled that the capture and commercialization of wildlife constitutes a crime and asked the population to report these cases to SERFOR Alert (WhatsApp 947 588 269).
