Jauja: After the bully, tourists will visit the Paca lagoon

Jauja: After the bully, tourists will visit the Paca lagoon

The photography of the beautiful and enigmatic Paca lagoon stands out in the offer of a well-known airline and in the tunantero tour offered by tourism and transportation agencies a few days before the tunantada festival, whose main day is January 20 .

If you are going to arrive in Jauja for the tunantada festival, you cannot leave without reaching the Paca lagoon, which is one of those magical places that tourists long to see. About it there are incredible stories of treasures, myths, legends and adventures.

It is located about 3.5 km north of the city of Jauja. The lake is 21.40 km long. It is located 3,418 meters above sea level and in its deepest part it can exceed 30 meters.

ROUTE.

Yesterday, we had the joy of exploring its crystalline waters. Upon entry, Arcadio Quispe acts as host, on his boat, we are about to complete the number of sailors for the lagoon tours.

As we move forward, a bird with dark plumage follows us, “a black duck from the lagoon, with your very elegant plumage,” as the performer Haydee Raymundo sings, dressed as Jaujina, on the island of love.

The music of the saxophones, clarinets and the harp moves the hearts of the visitors, who are enveloped in the fresh breeze and the chirping of the birds that wait for the visitors to throw them some grains of food.

Arcadio Quispe rows and rows while telling visitors about the enigmatic stories about the island of love, which is most visited on Valentine’s Day.

Other stories are related to the greenish hills that surround the lagoon. An image that can be clearly seen is that of the “Sleeping Indian”, which rests between the mountains of the Andes Mountains and that you can see from the lagoon; Very close you can see the back of a large alligator. Arcadio also says that “this lagoon is somehow connected to the Ñahuimpuquio Lagoon in the province of Chupaca” (of course it is a myth).

The surroundings of the lagoon have become a tourist site with hotels and lodgings, with a beautiful landscape. The tourist breaks also offer typical dishes of the area such as pachamanca, tripe, chicharrón dorado and colorado. And the guinea pig cannot be missing from the menu.

To get to Jauja, there are air flights from Lima airport. You can also board buses at the Yerbateros terminal in San Luis.

If you live in Huancayo, you only have to board a car or bus that will take you to Jauja, some even go directly to Laguna de Paca.

The tour guides, paddlers, and restaurants are eagerly awaiting the tourists who are going to arrive in Jauja on January 20 to dance the tunantada and, along the way, they will tour the Laguna de Paca.
