Jarabacoa in a state of emergency due to landfill fire

The council of councilors of the city council of jarabacoa declared that municipality in the province of La Vega in a state of emergencydue to the contamination generated by the fire that has affected the landfill of that town for several days.

The decision of the councilors took place during an extraordinary session.

They explained that they took the measure because the fire in the garbage dump has spread out of control.

The smoke that comes out of the landfill spreads throughout the municipality, causing respiratory problems among the residents.

The mayor of jarabacoaYunior Torres, reported that in the next few hours a team of technicians from the Presidency will visit the dump to carry out actions that help put out the flames.

He said that the presidential delegation will be headed by Gerónimo Abreu, in charge of fires at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

Residents of the Rabo de Chivo community, where the dump is located, have been asking the authorities for the transfer of that deposit for several years.

They denounce that fires in the area originate frequently, generating environmental contamination and health problems.
