Japan slipped through the German defense to win their first World Cup game but the captain Maya Yoshida said the Blue Samurai have to make sure “not to make a false step” against Costa Rica on Sunday.
The Japanese knocked out the Germans 2-1 and now they have the opportunity to take a big step towards the knockout stage, for which they will have to get a good result against injured Costa Rica in group A.
The Central Americans opened their campaign receiving a 7-0 win over Spain but Yoshida insists that his team was not going to underestimate their opponent.
“All eyes are on us after the last game and we have to make sure that we don’t make a false step,” the defender said on Saturday.
