Judge Janet Tello Gilardi is the new president of the Judiciary for the period 2025-2026, as announced by the Plenary Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, who finally deliberated that the head of the First Chamber of Constitutional and Social Law of the Supreme Court of Justice is the one who represents them.
“We are all in the Plenary Chamber together for the period 2025-2026 with me at the head, but in a representation of a collegiate management to commit ourselves and reaffirm this service in favor of all people without any discrimination. Place in constitutional equivalence with the others powers of the State”, were the first words of the magistrate.
Likewise, she thanked the supreme judges who placed their trust in her, who will officially assume the position of president on January 2, 2025, in a change of command led by Javier Arévalo. Tello had presented his candidacy together with judges Carlos Arias Lazarte and Manuel Luján Túpez.
The judge belongs to the group of magistrates appointed before 2018 by the National School of Judiciary. With 10 votes from the Plenary Chamber, he managed to prevail in the Palace of Justice.
Last November 28, this room held a special session, where Janet Tello’s proposals were heard. On that occasion, he proposed seeking a solution to the problem of distortion faced by the Supreme Court when acting as a third judicial instance, which impacts its function of unifying jurisprudence and, at the same time, increases the procedural burden and provisional nature, since who are forced to create more transitional rooms to handle all cases.
In addition, the need to evaluate the technological changes that were implemented due to COVID-19 was highlighted, in order to make the necessary improvements and optimize their use. Also mentioned was the lack of protection for judges who are the subject of unfounded complaints or demands, which affect their honor and privacy.
