Jalisco State Court confirms Pablo Lemus’ victory

Jalisco State Court confirms Pablo Lemus' victory

With this resolution, the partial district counts related to the election for the governorship of the state of Jalisco and also the final count of the election are confirmed.

Since the district counts were made on June 8 and Lemus’ victory was confirmed, Morena announced the challenge of the elections; the leader Mario Delgado accused the local Institute of tarnishing the process in the state.

According to the official count, Lemus obtained 1,626,941 votes, that is, 43.17% of the votes; his counterpart, the Morena candidate Claudia Delgadillo, received 1,440,161 votes, which represents 38.21%.

However, candidate Claudia Delgadillo claimed that the chain of custody of the electoral packages was lost during the vote count and that is why she did not recognize the victory.

But Monday’s ruling states that Morena was unable to prove the alleged “serious, systematic and decisive” irregularities with which it sought to annul the election.

In addition, the state court’s ruling explained that the difference between first and second place was greater than 5 percent, and under that assumption, the provisions of Article 41 of the Constitution cannot be applied, which states that “violations are decisive when the difference between the votes obtained by first and second place is less than five percent.”

In addition to the ruling in favor of Lemus, the election in the municipalities of Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque was also validated, meaning that the MC candidates retain their victories.

Candidate Verónica Delgadillo, winner of the Guadalajara mayoral election, celebrated the court’s ruling and accused Morena of being false.
