While Rodríguez Calderón and his defense awaited the judge’s decision, the current governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, said that “a new beginning implies not tolerating corruption, not allowing impunity and that justice be done. Today we took an important step to achieve it.”
“If someone, whoever, violated the law and abused the trust of the people of New Leon, they will have to be held accountable and pay the consequences,” he asserted.
García pointed out that he is “calm because we have done the right thing and because the Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary are autonomous, professional and responsible institutions. I know they will act in full accordance with the law and do justice to our state.”
AMLO talks about Rodríguez Calderón
The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, asked this Wednesday not to use the “law” to carry out “political revenge”, questioned about the recent arrest of the former governor of the state of Nuevo León, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón “El Bronco” (2015-2021 ), for the alleged diversion of public resources in a case from 2018.
“What I always recommend is that the law should not be used for political revenge. Crimes cannot be fabricated and at the same time there should be no impunity,” the president said during his morning press conference from the National Palace.
“El Bronco” was arrested on Tuesday when he left a ranch in the municipality of General Terán, and was transferred to the Apodaca prison accused of using public resources for his electoral campaign for the presidency in 2018.
López Obrador specified that the arrest of the former governor is alien to the federal government, likewise, he rejected the photographs of the arrest of the former politician that were disseminated in the media.
He assured that these photos violated the dignity of the politician, who is currently being held in preventive detention in the Apodaca prison.
