The president of the Senate, Olga Sánchez Cordero, rejected the request made yesterday by the former governor of Baja California, Jaime Bonilla Valdez, to present a constitutional controversy before the Supreme Court of Justice against the resolution of the Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF), which prevents him from returning to his seat in that chamber of Congress.

Bonilla García appeared at the meeting of legislators from Morena in preparation for the session of the Permanent Commission and insisted on that request that, according to several of the attendees, she had already made to Sánchez Cordero before, but yesterday, in anticipation of a resolution against the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF to his appeal, which would leave him without jurisdiction, was even more insistent.

That claim to return to the Senate comes at a time when the investigation is progressing in Baja California to try him for the crimes of embezzlement and corruption, according to the complaint filed by the government of Marina del Pilar Ávila against him.

Yesterday, the Baja California Attorney General’s Office informed the State Judiciary Control Court of three official addresses of former Governor Bonilla Valdez to notify him of the date of the indictment hearing, scheduled for August 15.

He is responsible for committing for 25 years the federal participations in the payment of an indemnity of 123 million pesos per month to the company Next Energy as a fine for not insuring the construction of a photovoltaic park in Mexicali.

It is not a witch hunt, we only shield the resources that correspond to Baja California because it also compromised until 2050 the federal participations that correspond to the entityGovernor Ávila Olmeda explained.

Meanwhile, Sánchez Cordero responded to Bonilla that it is not legally appropriate for the Senate to present this controversy because the sentence of the Regional Chamber of Guadalajara does not invade the powers of the Legislative.

In addition, the president of the Senate added, the sentences of the regional chambers can only be challenged before the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF, which is only the responsibility of Bonilla, who has already done so and can only wait for the resolution of that court.

Bonilla did not agree with the refusal, but Sánchez Cordero maintained his position and asked the former governor be careful and he will not appear at the Permanent session, to which he has not been summoned, because his case is under consideration by the TEPJF.

However, Bonilla went to the Permanent Hall, before the start of the session, and answered questions from the reporters. He assured that he continues to carry out his legislative tasks. When asked if he continues to collect his allowance, despite the court’s ruling, he replied: I do my legislative work as the people of Baja California demand of me. It is not honorable to charge without working. He left before the session started.
