Madrid.- The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) seeks to strengthen the country’s position in international markets and generate new business opportunities for the Dominican Republic, said its president Héctor Porcella.
“The intention is to strengthen connectivity with the European market and improve the connection with the Middle East, which is why the JAC directs its participation in the Spanish tourism fair (Fitur) to consolidate the reputation of the Dominican Republic as a class destination. world,” he said when participating in the inauguration of the tourism fair in Madrid.
He announced that work meetings are planned with authorities in the sector, with tour operators and wholesalers issuing international travelers. In addition to other meetings with strategic business partners and representatives of international airlines.
Porcella expressed that tourism investment is fundamental for the development of the sector and to continue improving the growing participation of this industry in the Dominican gross domestic product.
He recalled that the year 2024 closed with more than 19 million incoming and outgoing passengers transported through the airports of the Dominican Republic.
“This is a record number of passengers for the Dominican Republic, and if this growth trend continues, it is expected that by the first week of December 2025, the country will have surpassed the mark of 20 million passengers in entries and exits transported. via air,” he indicated.
He highlighted that the fastest growing market last year was South America, with an increase of 22% compared to 2023, a region that will consolidate as the second largest traffic market for the DR.
