According to ALTA, three countries continue to stand out in the region, following the path of growth in terms of international passengers. In September 2022, Dominican Republic reached 124% compared to the same month 2019, Mexico 114% and Colombia 113%. On the other hand, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Peru have not reached their 2019 levels.

Marte Piantini reported that domestic traffic is one of the priorities of President Luis Abinader and that the Civil Aviation Board is making efforts to establish new domestic cargo and passenger routes, key to strengthening national aviation.
He added that the flights from the La Isabela airport to the Cabo Rojo aerodrome, recently inaugurated, are part of the actions for the development of the tourist destination of Pedernales and the entire southern region and the increase in routes under this modality. “We are working on the establishment of new national routes that will be added to the 12 already operated by national airlines,” he said.
The JAC also highlighted that the La Isabela airport located in El Higüero, Santo Domingo Norte, together with the Punta Cana and Las Américas airports set historical records for passenger traffic in the month of October 2022, highlighting the growth shown by Punta Cana, which registered an 18% increase in passenger traffic, compared to the number of passengers in October 2018.
