The demarcations that have been placed as red spotlights of this crime, with and without violence, are Iztapalapa with 56 registered cases, Cuauhtémoc with 52 and Tlalpan with 49.
In contrast, the mayorships with fewer cases are Milpa Alta with 6, Azcapotzalco with 15, as well as Iztacalco and Magdalena Contreras tied with 17.
The robbery room is considered a high -impact crime, which is sanctioned with a penalty of between 4 and 10 years in prison, according to the Capital Criminal Code.
The penalty increases from 2 to 8 years in jail in cases where physical or moral violence is exercised to commit the theft, as well as when performed by one or more armed people, who carry dangerous instruments or who have appearance of weapons.
This crime recorded an increase in annual incidence between 2015 – first year in which official records are shown – until reaching its highest peak in 2018, with 7,557 cases in Mexico City.
As of this last year there has been a marked downward trend, in which 2024 has been the year with fewer cases, which represents a 57.2% decrease when comparing with the record figure.
Of the 50,684 cases of home robbery reported in Mexico City in the last decade (2015 to 2024), 90.7% were without violence and only 9.3% were committed violently.
