Santo Domingo.- The former president of Colombia, Iván Duque, assured this Monday that the international community acts with hypocrisy by pretending that Haiti’s problems are solved by the Dominican Republic.
Duque, who governed Colombia in the period 2018-2022, considered that the international community must fight to ensure security in Haiti, so that its citizens do not have to emigrate to Dominican territory and other countries.
«There is a lot of hypocrisy on the part of the international community, wanting the Dominican Republic to solve Haiti’s problems alone. I believe that in that country there must be security and we must all fight to achieve it,” said the former president during a meeting with media from the Corripio Communications Group.
The former South American ruler considered that there is no way for the Dominican Republic to continue supporting the spending pressure represented by Haitian immigration.
When asked for his opinion on the tax reform project promoted by the local government, Duke He stated that “there will always be people who will not agree with them.”
He defended the tax reform that he implemented during his government, and attributed the criticism that is still made about it to “sectors that always seek to set fire to it.”
