President Ivan Duque In his last speech to Colombians, he highlighted the most important actions carried out in his government, especially the decisions taken in the framework of the care of the covid-19 pandemic.

In the speech, he assured that in many moments of history, Colombians managed to be resilient by resorting to inner strength.

“Declaring mandatory preventive isolation and closing the borders was the most difficult decision to make in these four years and certainly in the entire history of the country, today the results achieved and the signs of recovery give us the peace of mind that we have done the right thing”, he explained

He highlighted the decisions made regarding the expansion of the Intensive Care Units with artificial respirators where necessary, which made it possible to avoid the collapse of the health system.

“We responded with a Solid National Vaccination Plan, equitable and free where they have applied more than 90 million pesos protecting the lives of Colombians and economic reactivation”, he assured.

Duque also referred to the actions carried out in his government for the care of people and the recovery of the Providencia Island affected by Hurricane Iotacategory five in November 2020.

“Today after the impact of nature there is an island of Providencia renovated and colorful, which recreates the best feelings of the Raizal people, more than 95% of the island has been recovered, families have better housing and services than before, the inhabitants can enjoy education, sports and a better quality of life,” he noted.

He pointed out that 114 workshops were held building a country and more than 340 regional agendas where citizens were heard.

He assured that in terms of infrastructure there are great achievements in education and in different programs such as family in action and older adults, among others.
