We spoke with Iván Chanis, internationalist lawyer and president and founder of the Fundación Iguales”.

This week Jessica Stern, special envoy from the United States to promote the human rights of LGBTQI+ people, arrived in Panama to evaluate what her visit to our country represents, today we talked with Iván Chanis, internationalist lawyer and president and founder of the “Fundación Iguales “.

“That a person like Jessica Stern, with an important rank within the United States government, decides to come to Panama, Argentina and Peru on a visit to Latin America, is a great honor for us,” Chanis emphasized.

During the conversation, Chanis assured that after her meeting with the promoter, she was very receptive to knowing what the situation is and where the rights of LGBTQI+ people are and how the State is responding to those commitments.

“Panama is one of the few countries in the world that does not have any legislation regarding protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity expression; Panama does not respect the right to identity of trans people and we are in great debt,” concluded.
