Colombia Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez Suárez, denied on Monday, April 14, rumors about the alleged death of one of the main leaders of the FARC dissidents, known with the alias of “Iván Bite”in a military operation carried out in the jungle area of the south of the country, in the department of Amazonas.

In a press conference offered from the Ministry headquarters in Bogotá, Sánchez Suárez confirmed that the operation did take place and that it was an action against illegal armed structures, but clarified that “there is no evidence that allows confirming the death of the leader in question.”
“So far we have no conclusive information that indicates that alias ‘Iván bite’ has been neutralized. What we do know is that there is a fracture between him and ‘Alfonso 40’ and ‘Alfonso 45′”said the head of the Defense portfolio.

The minister took the opportunity to reiterate the government’s commitment to the offensive against illegal armed groups and stressed that operations in the south of the country will continue to intensify in the next few days.

Alias ”Iván Bite”, whose real name would be Néstor Gregorio Vera Fernández, is considered one of the greatest leaders of the FARC dissidents, especially the self -denominated central General Staff, and is sought by crimes such as drug trafficking, homicide and forced displacement.
