In the last hours, the leadership of the National Party has turned against various media outlets due to the revelations that have poured out to the public opinion in the case of Alejandro Astesiano, the former custodian of Luis Lacalle Pou accused of leading a large network of passport sales false and sensitive information using state tools.
The president of the National Party, Pablo Iturralde, questioned the Broad Front for stating that there are “bribes in the Executive Tower,” but acknowledged that such bribes existed. «When the Executive Tower is said, there is a network of bribery, that they say who they are referring to, that they say it clearly and looking into the eyes. You can’t throw those things away when sweeping. Because, above all, the Executive Tower is very large. That we had a problem with someone linked to presidential security, who works in the Executive Tower, and that there may be a matter of bribery? We all know it, but let it be said and don’t throw it away when sweeping, ”he began by saying at a press conference on Tuesday morning.
And he added that, for him, there are media outlets that are setting up “an operation”, but he avoided saying which media he is referring to: “Here what there is, clearly, an operation, I am not going to refer (…) I am not going to say who I mean. We all know who is operating, but there is an operation here that news comes out every day that we do not know if they are true, from within the Justice, we do not know what is happening with WhatsApp, it seems that there are a number of WhatsApp that people manage them and we don’t know what they are”.
Bianchi says that she is from the left
For her part, the senator for the National Party, Graciela Bianchi, (third in power and vice president when Lacalle Pou is out of the country) also went head-on against the media. “It is no coincidence that all the operations of which the Uruguayan State is a victim are made public through M24 Y MVD News (the newscast of tv city) and ‘journalists’, two with political positions and of particular trust”, the ultra-conservative legislator began by saying on her Twitter account, a channel that she uses practically all day to make all kinds of assertions.
“The manual of the San Pablo Forum and the Puebla Group is followed,” he added.
In other tweets he quoted Eastern Chroniclesan independent portal based in the department of Maldonado, as The Daily.
Against the Broad Front
In a video posted at 3:02 p.m. on Tuesday, Bianchi expanded his position, stating that he is from the left. “I want to convey a feeling more than ideas, that we citizens who are part of the democratic left in this country have. Today we are not in the hands of a democratic left, we are in the hands of the ultra-left by the MLN-Tupamaros and the Communist Party. Look at Chile: Uruguay is not going to be Chile”, the white legislator began by saying.
«The objective of the Broad Front at this time is to destabilize the country. Obviously we have the problem of what happened with Astesiano, I insist again, a parsley custodian of the president. And the other thing that we have, and that I ask the population to reflect on, is that this new Criminal Procedure Code, which not in vain came from the hands of the radical ultra-left itself, allows them to be known and published -by operators who have in the form of journalists, or apparently they are journalists, statements by those investigated who have the right to lie, in order to defend themselves. Witness statements, chats that do not know where they come from because they are in the process of investigation… and it is given as something certain. No one is going to go unpunished here, and the operations with which these characters live and feed, many of whom are in Parliament, are going to be demystified by reality, and by Justice accordingly, “he specified.
