President Gustavo Petro, this Saturday, December 17, signed decree 2497 of 2022 that establishes the roadmap to enable the financial superintendent to issue the Soat ratesas announced by the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes.

The regulations establish that the Soat rate will be reduced. There it is clarified what kind of vehicles would apply to the benefit of a 50% reduction.
The decree contemplates that it will apply to: motorcycles between 100 cubic cm and 200 cubic cm, motorcycles, urban minibuses, five-passenger motorcycles, tricycles, business cars, taxis, urban public service vehicles, buses, small buses, and inter-municipal transportation.
“The value to pay of the Soat will be equivalent to approximately 50% of the final price in force as of December 14, 2022“said the minister.
Regarding coverage, it is clarified that the reduction does not harm it, since any affected in a road accident will be the object of comprehensive care. Along with this, Reyes clarified that the resources to finance this reduction come from “transfers that the General Budget of the Nation will appropriate for the General System of Social Security that Adre administers according to budget availability.”

In addition, He called on the IPS not to tamper with driver’s licenses. Reyes said that he will be in the Prosecutor’s Office reporting the irregularities that they have found in this type of entities, especially on the Atlantic Coast.

Finally, the portfolio manager said that this decree is an important decision for insurers commit to issuing 100% of the Soat policies. On Monday the decree will be published and the Financial Superintendency will have one day to issue the resolution.
