“It’s not a simulation, I’m retired,” says AMLO and presents his new book ‘Greatness’

“It's not a simulation, I'm retired,” says AMLO and presents his new book 'Greatness'

“It is not a ranch, it is not a large estate, it is one hectare and a little more, 12, 13,000 square meters. I decided to come and start a new life, because I retired from active politics, from political practice. It is not a simulation, I am retired, so imagine yourself after nearly fifty years of uninterrupted struggle,” he noted.

Regarding his retirement, the former president commented that he decided to retire to write, as he announced before his government ended.

“I thought about what to dedicate myself to and I decided to dedicate myself to doing theory, to writing. I have always maintained that politics is thought and is action. Of course I thought and I have ideals, I have principles, that is what moves me, but fundamentally I was a man of action in my public, political work,” he added.

The former president stated that he would only take to the streets for three reasons: if there is electoral fraud, if there are coup attempts against President Claudia Sheinbaum or if national sovereignty is violated.

López Obrador also denied that Sheinbaum has influence in the government, stating that she is “an exceptional woman” and does not want to “overshadow her.”

“So you have to support the president a lot. I told them, I would go out to defend democracy, I would also go out to defend her if there are attempts at a coup d’état. If they harass her, I go out. So, yes, but I don’t think that will happen. So it’s not bad that they know under what circumstances I could go out, yes I would go out on the streets. The third reason why I would go out on the streets would be to defend the sovereignty of Mexico,” he commented.

Regarding his book, the former president stated that he seeks to vindicate the indigenous peoples of ancient Mexico.

“I share this video about my book Grandeza. It is about vindicating the original peoples of ancient Mexico, the denied civilization, as Guillermo Bonfil Batalla would say, because thanks to that legacy of knowledge, values, customs, traditions and art, Mexico, despite the sorrows, continues to be a cultural power in the world. I send a hug to you with all my heart,” he commented.

The last book that López Obrador published was Thank you!, where he recounts his time in politics. This would be his 21st publication.
