The Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, Franklin Molina, reported that the head of the urea plant located in Bulo Bulo, Cochabamba, earns Bs 250 thousand. “That’s normal in the oil industry,” he said.

Page Seven reported this Friday that the head of the Ammonia and Urea Plant (PAU) receives a salary that is above what the president of the World Bank earns and more than in the industry, according to another analyst.

The data reveals that the plant manager of Indian nationality earns 250,000 bolivianos per month; two DCS operators of the Urea Plant receive 4.2 million bolivianos per year each and 64,341 bolivianos per month.

“Without a doubt, I should mention that this is normal in the oil industry,” said the minister, showing a spreadsheet from an oil company that he did not mention.

“You can see, a manager is earning about 369 thousand, another corporate manager about 244 thousand, so I don’t understand the motivation for these kinds of comments that are other than absurd,” he said.

The minister of the sector defended the salary scale which, in his opinion, is justified by the experience that officials have in the field.

“This plant requires the most highly qualified personnel, let’s not forget that the handling of products and the operation of this complex is quite risky, there is movement of nitrogen, of ammonia,” said the minister.

He then specified: “It is a service that he provides to a YPFB contracting company, that company is YPFB refining” and said that he has 30 years of experience.

In this context, Molina challenged the opposition to find an official of that stature. “If someone can bring us a professional with those characteristics and in particular if there are people from the opposition who bring him and surely the company that subcontracts him is going to grab him,” said the minister.
