A moving graduation speech at Eafit University went viral this week; Astrid, a 60-year-old woman, shared her story of perseverance in obtaining her degree in psychology, moving thousands on social media.

Model Valentina Pérez Burgos was the one who made the speech go viral by publishing it on her TikTok account.
“A 60-year-old just graduated from my university and you still think it’s too late to fulfill your dreams,” Perez wrote in the post that has already accumulated thousands of views.
In her speech, Astrid recalled that her dream of becoming a psychologist began when she was nine years old, but life and her circumstances kept her from that goal for many years.
«From a young age, I knew I wanted to leave the world better than I found it and that education was the only way to achieve that freedom.»he said.
Astrid faced numerous obstacles throughout her life, from prejudice to personal challenges, but she never gave up on her dream.
«Age doesn’t matter. I started studying convinced that it was time to think about myself. I finished high school in 2009 and received a scholarship for the best grade point average»said the graduate, receiving great applause from the audience.
The emotional testimony has inspired many on social media.
“Astrid is an example to follow,” “This is the sign I needed,” and “At 33 years old, I already know what I want to study and I will do it no matter what,” were some of the comments.
Stories like Astrid’s have emerged in Antioquia over the years, a notable example being that of Lucio Chiquito, a 108-year-old engineer who continues to set new goals, being an example of perseverance for many.
This story shows that it is never too late to fulfill your dreams and that education is a path to freedom and personal growth.
