Once again, the Petro government is in the midst of controversy over a decision already signed, that of the salary readjustment “for the honorable Chamber of Representatives and the honorable Senate”, an increase of 2.5 million pesos for congressmen, this 2022.
“It is the fault of Congress that does not want to lower the salary,” are the criticisms they are receiving.
The controversy is because in addition to the fact that they are more than two minimum wages for a salary that already exceeds 34 million pesos, also it is retroactive.
The retroactive applies from January 2022: that is, the increase that has not been paid throughout the year to date must be replaced.
In addition, Decree 2405, which authorizes 2.7%, repeals Decree 1546, which had established an increase of 2.6%, signed by former President Iván Duque.
For many, this decision, which is contemplated in the Constitution and the government must comply with, is a bucket of cold water for a party that believed that with the current government and the bench in Congress, the salary of who legislate in the country.

In 2019 the salary of congressmen went to 32 million, in 2020 to 34, it had remained that way due to the crisis in the country, but now, it will rise to almost 37 million pesos.
This is not a government decision, it is constitutional and even the Comptroller’s Office, by legal procedure, certifies the readjustment of legislators’ fees.
While in Congress, the years go by and the debates to reduce, freeze, remove other precautions do not pass.
