The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, ofHe highlighted the accelerated growth exhibited by the free zone and industrial sectors and which have contributed to breaking record exports and job creation, thanks to the public policies promoted by the government of President Luis Abinader.
When participating in the “Challenges and Opportunities of economic reactivation” Forum, which is being developed by Grupo Editorial Gala, Bisonó indicated that during the post-pandemic economic reactivation period, the free zone sector has broken records and has more than 188,000 direct jobs with projections reaching 200,000 jobs at the end of the year, growth that the country has not exhibited for more than two decades.
He said that during the first five months of this year the industrial sector has invested 50 billion pesos in expansions of ships, new industries and described this as “a reflection of a dynamic economy”. He assured that these positive indicators are the result of a State decision by President Abinader to promote the sector, through the industrialization table, an initiative that has opened the doors for foreign investment, transparency and competitiveness.

“The economic reactivation is possibly one of the two or three most transcendental achievements of the last ddecade in the Dominican Republic”, highlighted the minister. Likewise, he highlighted the interest and support of the government in favor of MSMEs, the engine of the economy, achieving important agreements that have allowed identifying and promoting the fiFinancing and training of companies led, mainly, by women and young entrepreneurs in terms of formalization, digitization, and financial management for the sustainability of this important productive sector.
“Since we arrived at MICM, we have become promoters of transparency, economic development, and sustainability of the productive sectors, guarantors of the accelerated recovery of the economy that the Dominican Republic can exhibit,” said Ito Bisonó. During the meeting he said that the country se is on its way to becoming the main logistics and industrial HUB in the region, and proof of this is evident in the interest of large multinationals with foreign capital in operating from the Dominican Republic..
