This Sunday (13), 25,164 voters from Itatiaia, in the south of Fluminense, return to the polls to choose the new mayor and deputy mayor. Five slates are vying for mayor, and those elected today will serve until December 31, 2024.
Led by Bruno Guimarães Diniz (Solidariedade), the “The Future is Now” slate has Dr. Márcio Braga (Citizenship). The PDT has as candidates Adalberto Bisol and Carlos Porto. The ticket “For the Future of Itatiaia” is in dispute with Irineu Nogueira (PTB) and Denilson Sampaio (PSDB). PSOL competes with Fabíola Rodrigues and Ricarda Helena. Finally, the ticket “Seus Filhos Resgatando Itatiaia” has as candidates Silvano Rodrigues da Silva (PSC) and Eduardo Pereira (PRTB).
The reason for the supplementary election is the removal of the elected mayor, Eduardo Guedes, who won the election in 2020, but could not take office, because the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) understood that he would exercise the third consecutive term. Since then, the city has been led by the mayor. Currently, the interim mayor is councilor Thiago Rodrigues Moreira (DEM).
Located on the border of the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, in Serra da Mantiqueira, the municipality of Itatiaia has about 30 thousand inhabitants. One of its main attractions is the Itatiaia National Park.
