The Italian Agency for Cooperation (AICS) allocated 69 million euros (about 80 million dollars) to develop projects related to culture, agriculture and other spheres in Cuba last year, the state press reported this Saturday.
Through 18 initiatives, special attention was paid in “strengthening local capacities and promoting innovation, gender equality and climate resilience”, reported the Cuban News Agency Based on a report by AICS itself.
Among the outstanding projects are the ‘Santa Clara’, aimed at supporting the transformation of the homonymous convent into the Habanero historical center to develop an international center for the formation in heritage restoration.
The ‘Creative Zones’ program involved cultural initiatives in Havana and the Matanzas province with young people and women; While the ‘Hab.ama’ project supported more than 370 local productive entities, reinforcing food security in the capital, said the source.

Italian cooperation was also present in programs to modernize the production chain of coffee, livestock production and the use of renewable energy.
Cuba crosses a serious economic, social, energy crisis and other sectors due, mainly, to the hardening of US sanctions and the failed economic and monetary policies. This has generated scarcity of basics (food, medicines, fuel), daily blackouts, galloping inflation and an unprecedented migratory exodus.
