Itaipu Binacional closed the year 2024 with a positive balance of US $ 680.3 million. The result considers expenses such as the operation and maintenance of the plant, administration, payment of royalties and investments in social and environmental actions.
The hydroelectric dam also recorded a positive accounting result of US $ 443 million in the period. The figures include the US $ 301 million contribution to the Itaipu marketing account, maintaining, according to the company, the plant transfer rate at current values, thus avoiding increases in the electricity bill and directly benefiting the consumer.
The data were analyzed and approved on Thursday (10) by the Board of Directors, in an extraordinary meeting. “The numbers prove, once again, that Itaipu is a well-managed, financially healthy company, and committed to its institutional mission: generating clean, accessible and quality energy, with social and environmental responsibility, contributing to the development of Brazil and Paraguay,” said the Brazilian Usina Director-General, Enio Verri.
The annual statements follow the Brazilian and Paraguayan accounting practices and the guidelines of the Itaipu Treaty and their annexes. “The opinion issued by the auditors for the period has no reservations, ratifying the reliability of Itaipu’s accounting practices,” said the hydroelectric.
Itaipu’s executive chief executive financial officer, André Pepitone da Nóbrega, said that, due to the expansion of investments in social and environmental programs, the hydroelectric has opted to open the dissemination of its expenses, detailing investments in the sector. “This initiative aims to provide greater transparency to the user, reinforcing the company’s commitment to high corporate governance standards,” he said.
